MONTREAL & TORONTO

October 4 – 11, 2025

The Vancouver Opera Guild invites you to join its fall tour to Montreal and Toronto with three nights in Montreal and a performance of Don Giovanni at the Salle Wilfrid-Pelletier, and four nights in Toronto at the Sheraton Centre Hotel with performances of Orfeo et Euridice and Romeo et Juliette at the Four Seasons Centre.   Also included is an excursion to the McMichael Gallery in the charming village of Kleinburg, Ontario.

Operas you will see on the Tour:

Don Giovanni by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart

Mozart and Da Ponte’s lengthy collaboration gives us Don Giovanni, a maelstrom of tragedy and dark comedy, seduction and self-destruction.  The music’s timelessness is on full display and its full dramatic potency is realized by Stephen Lawless – a name that will perk up the ears and hearts of the Mozart-obsessed.

Cast includes John Brancy, Ruben Drole, Kirsten LeBlanc, Anthony Gregory, Andrea Núňez, Sophie Naubert, Matthew Li and William Meinert.  Conducted by Kensho Watanabe.

Orfeo ed Euridice by Christopher Willibald Gluck

Beloved for its noble simplicity, Robert Carsen’s stylized interpretation of the haunting Greek myth of Orpheus is minimalist, stark and experimental. The divinely gifted Orpheus draws on exquisite musical talents to beg the gods for the return of his recently deceased wife, Euridice.  Permitted to bring her back from the Underworld on the condition that he not look at her, or explain why, at the risk of losing her forever, Orpheus embarks on a journey that proves, once again, the enduring power of love.

Iestyn Davies is Orfeo and Anna-Sophie Neher is Euridice.  Bernard Labadie conducts.

Roméo et Juliette by Charles Gounod

Literature’s greatest romance is reimagined in a bold and colourful new vision from international director Amy Lane. Relocating the feuding  Montagues and Capulets from Renaissance Verona to Gilded Age New York, this daring and delightful production takes audiences on a journey from the soaring emotional highs of young love to heartrending despair as a fateful romance turns to tragedy.

Bekhzod Davronov is Roméo, Kseniia Proshina is Juliette, Robert Pomakov is Frère Laurent, Gordon Bintner Mercutio.  Yves Abel conducts.
