Awards Received

The Vancouver Opera Guild and its members have won a number of awards:


Volunteer Vancouver Recognition Award

In 1992 the Vancouver Opera Guild received a Volunteer Vancouver Recognition Award for its contribution to the city through volunteer service.


Opera Volunteers International (OVI)

“Opera Volunteers International” (OVI) (operavolunteers.org) is a nonprofit group that brings together volunteers who support opera companies in cities and local communities everywhere; it honours individuals and groups who have made exceptional contributions in opera volunteerism.


OVI “Partners in Excellence”

In 1999, Susan LePage was the first recipient to receive OVI’s “Partners in Excellence” award for her outstanding contribution as a long-time volunteer and donor.

In 2000, Pat Hancock was the recipient for her volunteer energies that span almost all of the Guild’s activities, from fundraising events to providing refreshments during rehearsals to volunteering in the Opera office. She was especially acknowledged for her long-time dedication to the Vancouver Opera in the Schools program.

In 2003, the Vancouver Opera Guild was honoured for its initiation and support of the Opera in the Schools program.

In 2004, the Vancouver Opera Guild was again the recipient of the “Partners in Excellence” award, marking its 25th anniversary as an incorporated society and 25+ years of contributing to opera in B.C.

In 2005, Judy Westacott received the award for her tireless work as Newsletter editor. She improved the newsletter’s format and content and initiated the electronic distribution of the Newsletter.

In 2008, Heather Clarke was honoured for having provided extraordinary leadership to the Guild and the
Vancouver Opera Association in her many roles. For the VOG, she developed a Policy and Procedures Manual, planned a strategic conference and procured two government grants for Arts Funding that were used support winners of the Metropolitan Opera Auditions and students.

In 2010, the Vancouver Opera Guild was honoured for the “Guild Adopts a School” program.

In 2013, Lore Hoffmann was presented with the “Partners in Excellence” award at the Opera Volunteers International and Opera America conference (held in Vancouver in May of 2013) for her long-time service as Chair of the Rehearsal Refreshments Committee.


OVI “Resource Competition”

In 2003, the Vancouver Opera Guild was recognized for initiating the “Strategic Planning and Membership Involvement”. The presentation of the award was made at the 2003 OVI conference in St.Louis, Missouri.


OVI “Matching Grant”

In 2004, the Vancouver Opera Guild received a Matching Grant for its “Celebrate the Arts – Celebrate
Volunteerism” conference to promote volunteerism in the arts and to recognize the contributions
that volunteers make to the success of the arts in the Vancouver community and throughout the
province.
