The Awards Committee of the Vancouver Opera Guild is pleased to announce that the judges’ unanimous decision was to award the 2022 Career Development Grant ($6,000) to mezzo-soprano Adanya Dunn of Toronto. She is an alumna of the University of Toronto, Bard College Conservatory (New York) and the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. In 2021 she was an Apprentice Artist with the Santa Fe Opera. She is also the 20/21 recipient of the Hnatyshyn Foundation Developing Artist Grant and a 2020 District Winner of the Metropolitan National Council Auditions.
This grant will enable Adanya to fund being based in Germany for 9 months. During this time she will:
- continue private studies with a voice teacher and coach to develop her voice, performance abilities, and musicality
- take acting and Alexander Technique lessons
- complete advanced level language courses in German (C1 level)
- make six new high-quality recordings
- participate in international auditions and competitions
- learn and prepare five (5) mezzo-soprano roles from the traditional operatic canon
