Our mission is carried out in part by Guild committees and by other volunteer opportunities:
Artists’ Door: provides commissionaire services on performance nights, ensuring that only authorized people are allowed backstage.
Awards: responsible for the Career Development Grant Program, Metropolitan Opera National Council auditions for the Western Canada district, awards to promising students financial support for the Spring opera productions at the University of British Columbia and the Vancouver Academy of Music.
Education: assists with rehearsal receptions for VOIS, organizes a Christmas fundraiser and judges children’s artwork contest.
Guild Centre: staffs the VOG table in the theatre lobby prior to the performance and during intermission to promote Guild activities and encourage membership.
Membership: oversees membership activities such as recruitment, recognition and maintenance of databases
Newsletters: publishes a newsletter three times a year, obtains, edits and collates materials and arranges distribution
Publicity: helps publicize various Guild events through production and distribution of posters, press releases, web page, etc.
Rehearsal Refreshments: provides light refreshments to orchestra, chorus, stars and staff during technical rehearsals at the Q.E. Theatre.
Special Events: plans and oversees events and other initiatives to raise funds for the Guild.
Tours: plans and organizes interesting opera tours asa Guild fundraisers.
Transportation: meets the opera artists on arrival at the airport, welcomes them to Vancouver and transports them to their Vancouver residence.
