2016 Northwest Region Finals Winners

The Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions hosted the Northwest Region Finals Winners of the Idaho/Montana, Oregon, Washington, and Western Canada District Auditions compete to win cash prizes and a chance to sing on the Metropolitan Opera stage. The 1st place winner of the Northwest Region Finals will join the 1st place winners from 11 other Regions across the United States in New York City for the National Semi-Finals, Sunday, March 12, 2017. Each finalist in the National Semi-Finals competition received a cash prize, coaching from the Metropolitan Opera staff, and will sing in the National Grand Finals Concert accompanied by the Metropolitan Orchestra on Sunday, March 19, 2017, to a sold-out audience.

The Northwest Regional Winners:

Congratulations to all MONC NW Regional Finalists, all of whom received $500.

First place winner is mezzo soprano Pascale Spinney, age 28, from Vancouver, B.C., who received $5,000 and will travel to New York for the semi-finals in March.

Second Place winner was soprano Madison Leonard, age 24, from Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, who received $3,000

Third Place was soprano Antonia Tamer, age 28, from Boston, MA, who received $2,000

The level of singing was very high. Bravi tutti!

2016 Western Canada Auditions Winners

The Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions Western Canada were held on Sunday November 6th. The event is annually hosted by the Vancouver Opera Guild. The winners have been announced and they will be going on to the Regional Finals in Seattle in January 8th, 2017. The judges, Erie Mills, Peter Grunberg, and Clare Burovac chose three singers to go on to Seattle.

The Western Canada Winners:

Tamar Simon (22) Soprano from Vancouver, BC – Tamar studied with Nancy Hermiston at UBC for 4 years, now studying with James Raftery – UBC.

Pascale Spinney (28) Mezzo Soprano from Montreal, QC – Pascal is in the YAP Program at Vancouver Opera, and will play Hansel in VO production. Her training has been with Gabrielle Lavigne presently and before that for 6 years with Therese Sevadjian at McGill.

Elaina Moreau (27) Soprano from Vancouver, BC – Elaina studied with Mary Morrison in Toronto for six years, and now for three years with Tracy Satterfield in Texas. Elaina has been a district winner three times, twice in the USA and now in Canada.

Andrew Erasmus (23) Baritone from Victoria, BC – Studies with Ingrid Attrot.

Madison Craig (22) Soprano from Lethbridge, AB – Studies with Dr. Sandra Stringer Conlon in Lethbridge.

The People’s Choice Awards Winners:

Pascale Spinney and Andrew Erasmus were the People’s Choice Award Winners.
